NGT directs pollution control body to inspect industries in Greater Noida

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board to inspect and initiate action against polluting industries in the Greater Noida. The NGT’s direction came after a plea was filed by Greater Noida resident Yogesh Nagar, alleging that extensive industrial activity was taking place in a “clandestine manner”. This had led to large scale pollution and contamination of groundwater in the area. He also claimed that the industries were extracting groundwater without permission, resulting in a fall in the groundwater table.
