EU aims for zero-waste economy with higher recycling targets

The European Commission has released a new Legislative Proposal putting forward ambitious recycling targets for 2030. The Proposal is accompanied by a Communication ‘Towards a Circular Economy’ setting out how to establish a common EU framework to promote the move to zero-waste.

The Commission's Proposal would update existing Waste Directives and its targets would be legally binding. The Commission believes that achieving these targets would create 180,000 jobs in the EU whilst also making Europe more competitive.
