Diesel vehicles ban hinges on States’ pollution data: NGT

The National Green Tribunal will first go into pollution data from different States before taking a call on extending the ban on registration of diesel vehicles having capacity of 2,000cc and above to other cities across the country. At present, the ban is imposed on Delhi and Kerala. The NGT on Tuesday directed the States to furnish a report on pollution levels in their worst-affected cities. The next hearing in the tribunal has been scheduled for July 11.On Tuesday, the NGT asked the States to submit affidavits within three weeks stating two most polluted cities within their territory, total population and vehicle density in each district. The States include Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, West Bengal, and Karnataka.
