National Green
Tribunal (NGT), western zone bench, has cleared Nagpur Municipal Corporation's
(NMC's) municipal solid waste (MSW) to electricity project, thereby paving the
way for its execution. NMC had earlier appointed Hanjer, which failed to
execute it properly. On directives of NGT, it then appointed Essel
Infrastructure, whose rates were high. Hence, NMC decided to get green signal
from the Tribunal. The hearing on the project was held on Thursday. The bench
of justice VR Kingaonkar and AA Deshpande stated in the order that in case
there was any objection raised by any other party, it would be considered but
NMC should treat as an obstacle as the project has already got delayed. The
bench also directed Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) to monitor the
project.
