Residents of Sukhdev Vihar and Ishwar Nagar are up in arms
against a biomedical waste plant located barely metres away from their houses.
Residents, who have been living next to the plant for over nine years now, are
demanding that the plant’s licence — which expires on May 18 — shouldn’t be
renewed. The plant is an incinerator for waste from hospitals. “As residents of
the area, we are bearing the brunt of the plant for the past several years. In
this time, many of our children have been in and out of hospitals and the air
that we breathe has become a hazard,” said Anant Trivedi, a resident of Ishwar
Nagar. The residents have got the sludge from the plant tested by international
agencies and say that the results are harrowing.
