Waste burning continues in Gurgaon despite ban

Source: The Times of India, Date: , 2015

A day after the National Green Tribunal (NGT) imposed a complete ban on burning waste in the open, residents across the city witnessed the act being repeated with impunity. Residents of Sectors 15, 27, 45, 49, 50 and Sushant Lok 1 notified MCGon Wednesday about the ban being violated. They, though, appeared confused about the city's grievance redress mechanism and the system of imposing penalties on defaulters. "In the morning, I saw a sanitation worker burn waste, while reading the news of a heavy Rs 5,000 penalty on defaulters. I clicked a picture and called to complain on MCG's toll free number. It made no difference, though. I saw the same worker burning waste in the evening," said Y K Gupta, a resident of Sector 49.
