Noida bans open burning of waste

Following in Delhi's footsteps, Noida now plans to get tough on environmental violations. With the threat of winter smog looming, the Noida Authority on Friday issued a notice, asking people to stop burning leaves or any other material, including plastic, in the open. Flouters will face penal action. The ban comes following last week's review meeting by the National Green Tribunal (NGT). According to officials, the NGT had banned "unregulated open burning" of plastic, rubber, leaves or such articles across the country a year ago. "Last week's meeting aimed to reduce air pollution. NGT directed NCR municipal agencies to take serious note of violations, and act against the people concerned," said Akhilesh Singh, additional CEO, Noida Authority.
