Following in Delhi's
footsteps, Noida now plans to get tough on environmental violations. With the
threat of winter smog looming, the Noida Authority on Friday issued a notice,
asking people to stop burning leaves or any other material, including plastic,
in the open. Flouters will face penal action. The ban comes following last
week's review meeting by the National Green Tribunal (NGT). According to
officials, the NGT had banned "unregulated open burning" of plastic,
rubber, leaves or such articles across the country a year ago. "Last
week's meeting aimed to reduce air pollution. NGT directed NCR municipal
agencies to take serious note of violations, and act against the people
concerned," said Akhilesh Singh, additional CEO, Noida Authority.
