Concerned over the rampant burning of plastic waste, the National Green Tribunal has prohibited transportation, handling and disposal of such waste by unauthorised persons and its burning. “Plastic burning is being carried on rampantly, and plastic waste is being transported in illegal manner...We direct total prohibition on transportation of plastic waste,” said a Bench, headed by NGT chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar. “Whosoever is found carrying plastic waste for collection and disposal by person who does not hold authorisation, it shall be seized by corporation, police or SDM [Sub-Divisional Magistrate] and be disposed of in accordance with municipal waste disposal rules,” said the Tribunal.
