HC breather for cell towers atop schools and hospitals

In an interim order on Monday, the Bombay high court
prohibited the state government and local authorities from taking any coercive
action against cell phone towers atop schools, colleges and hospitals across
Maharashtra. The HC also directed the authorities to accept applications for
setting up new towers under the guidelines set by the central department of
telecommunication.
The HC order comes as a reprieve to cell tower and service
providers who were told to follow a new set of regulations introduced by the
state in March or face demolitionsealing of those towers on educational and
health institutes. The Tower and Infrastructure Providers Association (TAIPA)
and Indus Towers Ltd had challenged the law.
