Source: Source: Trinity Mirror, Chennai, Date: , 2010

It was quite shocking to see a press report that almost 1500 tonnes of medical waste such as hypodermic needles, syringes, surgical masks gloves, dead bodies, human limbs and blood socked cottons dumped in Kodungaiyou load fill in Chennai. This steep rise in the toxic and hazardous dumping waste will end up in spread of diseases and epidemic that will pose a greater health problems to the population of Chennai .It is very critical and crucial for the state Government to focus on this issue and implement ways to prevent dumping of hospital wastes. Presence of various chemicals makes the waste toxic, poisonous corrosive, flammable explosive, infectious and spreads known and unknown diseases.
