‘Over 15,000 trees cut since 2014’

Source: Hindu, New Delhi, April, 2017 :- Over 15,000 trees were cut in the Capital in the last three financial years to undertake development and construction activities, said Union Environment Minister Anil Madhav Dave on Monday.In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, Mr. Dave said that 6,161 trees were cut during 2014-15, as many as 4,689 trees were cut during 2015-16, and 4,759 trees cut during 2016-17.In all, 15,609 trees were cut in the three years, he added.Filling the gapMr. Dave also pointed out that Section 10 of the Delhi Preservation of Trees Act, 1994, said that every person who is granted permission under this Act to fell any tree is bound to plant such number and kind of trees in the area.
