NGT asks Odisha to restore forest area being used by KIIT students

Economic Times, Odisha, Mar, 2017 : The National Green Tribunal has directed the Odisha government to fence 18 acre forest area, that Kalinga Relief and Charitable Trust is accused of encroaching upon, and restore it to its original status. The order of the Eastern Zone bench of the Green Tribunal, dated March 21, came during the hearing of a complaint filed by activist Subhash Mohaptra. In his petition Mohapatra had sought the trust running Bhubaneshwar's Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) and a Institute of Social Sciences to be prosecuted for encroaching on forest land (chot jungle kisam) at Pathargadia in Bhubaneshwar in violation of Forest Conservation Act of 1980 .
