UPDATE

Strategic Approach to International Chemical Management (SAICM) is an important global platform to create the scope to minimize and reduce the impact of the chemicals on health and environment at large.   The 2nd Open-ended Working Group (OEWG2) meeting of the SAICM was held in Geneva from 14 – 17 December to shape the future agenda. Following are few key outcomes of the Working Group (OEWG2):

•  Addition of highly hazardous pesticides (HHP) to the agenda of ICCM4
• Proposals for action on lead in paint, EDCs, HHP, chemicals in products, and hazardous chemicals in the lifecycle of electrical and electronic products
•  Draft resolution on nano for ICCM4
• Recommending environmentally persistent pharmaceutical pollutants as a new emerging policy issue
