Post Event Updates: Our Toxic World launched this earth day

Source: Toxics Link Website, Date: , 2010

The first graphic novel on environment: Our Toxic World by Aniruddha Sen Gupta and Priya Kurian as part of a project by Toxics Link was launched among an informed group at the Oxford Book Store in Delhi and Kolkata. The event found much coincidence and impetus as it was launched on Earth Day in Kolkata, while a day after in Delhi.

The book is a joint collaboration with SAGE Publications and uses the exciting new format of graphics to highlight our everyday life toxicity. The book was launched by Film Maker Krishnendu Bose followed by a Panel Discussion. Chhanda Bose and Aparajito Bose—educationists from Springdale School, Orijit Sen—Creative head People Tree, Sarnath Banerjee—first graphic novelist from India, and Ravi Agarwal—Director Toxics Link were as panelists for the launch.

Just as the book breaks the monotony of tiring text reading, the launch was used a platform for engagement with the audience at each and every step for feedback and also ‘fun with learn’ (for the kids present for the event). A constant round of discussion, debate and questioning from the audience and even panelists was seen while an engagement with the audience was done through mediums such as a quiz on environment by the author. Complimentary signed copies of the book were also given out at the event. The success of the launch can be measured from the response from one of the children present for the launch who said, “Now I don’t think I’ll discard my computer that easily”.
