Source: Toxics Link, Date: , 2017
State Pollution Control Boards have a key
role in the implementation of E-waste Rules 2016 and will be principle agency
responsible for enforcement of these Rules. Hence, it is important that they understand
the framework and plan out the possible measures to make the Rules effective.
In order to help SPCBs and other agencies comprehend the Rules well and map out
possible steps, Toxics Link organized a capacity building workshop on 3 rd and
4 th March, 2017 in Bengaluru. Done in collaboration with Karnataka State
Pollution Control Board, the workshop had active participation from officers of
SPCBs from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telengana and Kerala, civil society organizations
and municipalities. The two day capacity building program included field visit
to a TSDF (Treatment, Storage and Disposal Facility) and an authorized E-waste
Recycling unit. The participants felt that the workshop was timely and will
help them in making the Rules powerful.
