Thirty per cent of diseases in
the world are caused due to environmental factors. Unfortunately, the burden of
these diseases is much higher in children. The exposure to various chemicals,
directly or indirectly, causes worst effects on human physiology, disrupting
its normal functioning and causing diseases as serious as cancers. City-based
National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (Neeri) will be one of
the major participants in an international symposium on 'Impact of chemical
exposures on health and environment' to be held in December at Centre for
Occupational and Environmental Health (COEH), Maulana Azad Medical College
(MAMC), Delhi, Neeri director Satish Wate told.
