Thirty per cent of diseases in the world are caused due to environmental factors. Unfortunately, the burden of these diseases is much higher in children. The exposure to various chemicals, directly or indirectly, causes worst effects on human physiology, disrupting its normal functioning and causing diseases as serious as cancers. City-based National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (Neeri) will be one of the major participants in an international symposium on 'Impact of chemical exposures on health and environment' to be held in December at Centre for Occupational and Environmental Health (COEH), Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC), Delhi, Neeri director Satish Wate told.
