New Mines Act

Source: N/A, Date: October , 2010

The Mines and Minerals Development and Regulation (MMDR) Act of 1957 is under review and amendment. The new MMDR Act proposes that either 26 per cent of profit generated by a firm operating the mine or 10 per cent of the royalty, whichever is higher, is to be given to people affected by the projects. With amendments to the Act is it likely that the fuel prices are yet to increase again? If yes, at what environmental costs?
