Wayanad district administration bans plastic bags, prohibits quarrying near three rock formations

In a significant step towards protecting the environment of the ecologically fragile hill district of Wayanad, the district administration has imposed a complete ban on use and sale of plastic bags and disposable plastic and thermocol plates and plastic serving glasses in the district from October 2 onwards. Also in another pro-environment order issued just days before he demitted office on Monday, district collector Keshvendra Kumar banned quarrying and mining activity in the picturesque and geologically rare rock formations of Phantom Rock, Arattupara and Kolagappara located in the Krishnagiri and Ambalavayal villages in the district.
