The chief secretary of the Delhi
government recently held a meeting with various agencies on the Okhla
waste-to-energy plant. It was aimed at taking stock of the implementation of
NGT's orders on a petition filed by residents of Sukhdev Vihar against the
"polluting" plant. Officials discussed all three waste-to-energy
plants in the city—the Okhla plant which is operational, Ghazipur which is
under trial and Bawana that will be commissioned soon. The "consent
management committee" of DPCC—which monitors and inspects projects that
come up for consent to establish or operate—has decided that the Okhla plant
will be operational on a "provisional basis" for now.
