Set up panel to survey Hindon pollution, suggest steps: NGT

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed authorities to form a committee to survey the level of pollution in the Hindon river and suggest remedial steps to control it. While hearing a petition on Wednesday, filed by an NGO against dumping of municipal, sewage and industrial wastes into the Hindon, a bench headed by NGT chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar ordered that a committee, comprising principal secretary (environment), state of UP, and officials from GDA, GMC, pollution control board, Noida Authority and state urban development department to survey the river and submit a report within two weeks. The green court warned that if the orders were not complied with, officials will have to be present in the court in person on the next date of hearing, November 5.
