The National Green
Tribunal (NGT) has directed authorities to form a committee to survey the level
of pollution in the Hindon river and suggest remedial steps to control it.
While hearing a petition on Wednesday, filed by an NGO against dumping of
municipal, sewage and industrial wastes into the Hindon, a bench headed by NGT
chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar ordered that a committee, comprising
principal secretary (environment), state of UP, and officials from GDA, GMC,
pollution control board, Noida Authority and state urban development department
to survey the river and submit a report within two weeks. The green court
warned that if the orders were not complied with, officials will have to be
present in the court in person on the next date of hearing, November 5.
