ITC set to collect paper waste from city households

paper wasteLitter-free roads may soon become a reality in the city. The Chennai Corporation is all set to kickstart source segregation of waste with the help of a private agency. This will help in reducing the amount of paper and plastic waste reaching the dump yards, which are running short of space and may not be able to manage after 2025 in the absence of any recycling efforts. According to a senior official in Ripon Buildings, the local body had entered into an understanding with M/s ITC Limited paperboard and speciality paper division) to collect paper and plastic waste. “The company will begin the exercise in ward 66 in the first week of May. It will cover households n Anna Nagar, especially, areas between Anna Nagar roundtana and 10th Main Road, New Avadi Road and EVR Periyar Salai,” he added.
