The National Green Tribunal on Friday sought the Centre's
response on a petition that wants the August 19 notification issued by the
environment ministry demarcating the eco-sensitive sensitive zone around the
Okhla Bird Sanctuary. The eco-sensitive zone encompasses an area of 100 metres
on the eastern, western and southern sides of the sanctuary and 1.27 km on the
north, up to the DND Flyway. A bench headed by NGT chairperson Justice
Swatanter Kumar issued a notice to the ministry of environment and forest
(MoEF), the National Board for Wildlife, the Uttar Pradesh government, the
State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) and others, seeking
replies by September 14.
