Fed up with the lagging measures of the local self-government
institutions here to set up sufficient number of treatment plants to recycle
plastic and electronic waste, nearly 35 residents associations in the city have
come together to make use of the same facilities available in other States and
treat the wastes without waiting for any governmental intervention. Hundreds of
urban families attached to these associations now collect the e-waste and other
non-degradable stuff at a common spot and later move them to the recycling
plants located at Erode in Tamil Nadu and Mandya in Karnataka with the support
of local junk dealers.
