Swachh Bharat mission: focus on waste-to-energy projects

NITI Aayog Chief Ministers’ sub-group is planning to take up various models/ projects under Swachh Bharat Mission. Chandrababu Naidu, Chairman of the sub-group, said, “We discussed various models under Swachh Bharat Mission such as waste to energy, composting, public and community toilets.” “In majority of the models, government cannot alone do it. We need to develop models to involve private sector through public private partnership (PPP) in a major way,” he added. The Chief Ministers’ sub-group had earlier toured West Bengal, Maharastra, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka to study best practices and viable projects.
