The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has planned to
replace conventional lights with power saving LED lights, but only on the Delhi
side of the expressway.A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was recently signed
between Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) and NHAI, under which the
entire cost of installing the lights will be borne by EESL. Whatever savings
accrue to NHAI on account of power savings will later be used to repay the
cost. "The entire investment will be recovered by seven years. We won't
need to pay for this," said a senior NHAI official. The initiative was
taken on the directive of the Delhi government's power department. It is
noteworthy here that around 17 km of the expressway falls under Delhi's
jurisdiction, while 10 km fall under Gurgaon.
