The National Green
Tribunal (NGT) on Wednesday issued notice to the South Delhi Municipal
Corporation, the Delhi Jal Board and Additional Commissioner (licensing) to
decide the fate of around 70 Mahipalpur hotels facing closure for flouting
pollution norms. Earlier, the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) had
refused to give these budget hotels licences since they did not have proper
effluent and sewage treatment plants. “Notice has been issued to all these
authorities so that they may be present for the next hearing on May 18,” Delhi
Pollution Control Committee counsel Sanjeev Ralli said. On the next date of
hearing, the green court will take up the issue of licensing with the civic
agencies and the water utility. According to Ralli, the DPCC has served
direction of closure notice to 71 such hotels in the Mahipalpur area.
