MCG contractors dump waste in empty Sushant Lok, DLF IV plots

The recent ban on dumping and burning waste in the open has had
an unintended and dangerous consequence - unscientific landfill within city
limits. The National Green Tribunal's order on burning of waste following set
norms, too, has had no impact on the way authorities dispose municipal solid
waste (MSW). This TOI reporter found that since the NGT order, MCG or its
contractors have been using vacant plots in Sushant Lok I and DLF IV to dump
garbage. On Sunday, four garbage trucks without number plates, were seen
dumping waste in pits on vacant plots in these residential area. Pits were
first dug up on the vacant plots using heavy earth movers, tonnes of mixed
waste was then offloaded in them, before they were leveled with mud, all in a
span of 10 minutes.
