Acting on a petition filed with the National Green Tribunal on
new high-rises that have come up on the banks of the Yamuna, the UP Pollution Control
Board (UPPCB) is set to conduct a survey of all multi-storey residential
societies in Agra to verify if they have been sanctioned the necessary
no-objection certificates (NOCs) by the department. The pollution control
authority will also inspect their sewer disposal systems to ensure they are not
dumping waste directly into the Yamuna, officials said."We will verify the
claims made by the petitioner in the NGT and check if they have got the
necessary NOCs from our department," A K Anand, UPPCB regional officer,
said. "But it is not our role to find out if the buildings are situated in
the floodplain zone. That is the duty of the revenue or irrigation
department."
