NOCs to Yamuna high-rises under pollution board scanner

Acting on a petition filed with the National Green Tribunal on new high-rises that have come up on the banks of the Yamuna, the UP Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) is set to conduct a survey of all multi-storey residential societies in Agra to verify if they have been sanctioned the necessary no-objection certificates (NOCs) by the department. The pollution control authority will also inspect their sewer disposal systems to ensure they are not dumping waste directly into the Yamuna, officials said."We will verify the claims made by the petitioner in the NGT and check if they have got the necessary NOCs from our department," A K Anand, UPPCB regional officer, said. "But it is not our role to find out if the buildings are situated in the floodplain zone. That is the duty of the revenue or irrigation department."
