Restart Kuberpur waste recycling plant: UPPCB to AMC

Taking cognizance of the deteriorating condition of the environment around the Kuberpur garbage dumpsite, the Uttar Pradesh pollution control board has sent a notice to the Agra municipal corporation to restart the solid waste recycling plant in the area.  On an average, 750 metric tonnes of garbage is collected from 117 transit points in the city and is dumped in the Kuberpur area, just a kilometer away from the Yamuna river bank. Later the heap of untreated solid waste is burnt, releasing a huge amount of poisonous gases into the air.  This not only puts a grave threat to the environment and health of people living around the area, but is also in violation of the recent orders by the divisional commissioner, which had put a complete ban on burning garbage as well as cow dung cakes in the city.
