NGT notice to Centre, west UP on river pollution

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has issued notice to the Union ministries of health and environment, the UP chief secretary, the central and state pollution control boards and district magistrate and senior superintendents of police of Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, Baghpat, Meerut and Ghaziabad districts over excessive pollution in rivers Hindon, Krishna and Kali. Thousands of people in these districts are suffering from water-borne diseases because of the pollution of river water in these districts. The notice was served on Wednesday, after the court accepted a petition filed by Chandraveer Singh, a resident of Daha village of Baghpat district and president of the Daoba Paryavaran Samiti (DPS), an NGO.
