A vigil has been mounted in all the trading and commercial establishments in the village panchayats against the usage of plastic bags below 40 microns thickness, according to S. Suresh Kumar, District Collector. In a statement released here the Collector has stated that those involved in wholesale or retail trading, storing or packing things in such prohibited plastic bags would be liable for penal action as provided under the Plastic Wastes (Management and Handling) Rules 2011.
