High Court sets aside Delhi civic body notices banning sale of edibles in open

The Delhi high court on Wednesday set aside the public notices issued by municipal bodies to ban sale of sugarcane juice and cut fruits in open without any licence. The court said that the legislation is already in place to ensure safety and standards of edibles and beverages sold by street vendors are maintained.

The court also said that since a survey of street vendors has not yet been completed so no street vendor can be evicted. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and its officers “are fully empowered” to ensure street vendors follow “the prescription of law as per the Acts and regulations”, said the court.
