Deadline for scientific closure of garbage depot may be extended

The scientific closure of the garbage depot at Phursungi-Urali will now be delayed. According to a civic administration proposal, the deadline for the capping project will be extended to December 2015 instead of June 2014. The standing committee of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will take a call on the new deadline. “Currently, only 300 tonne of garbage per day is being processed. The remaining 700 tonne is put in sanitary landfill site. This garbage needs to be capped as PMC has no land available for landfill.
