Even as the city is reeling under lack of ways to dispose of the electronic
waste, the units which function under the jurisdiction of pollution control
board (PCB) have not yet provided details of e-waste generated and its
disposal. As per the 'E-waste Management and Handling Rules, 2011', the units
should submit the annual report on e-waste management to the PCB. The rules
came into effect in 2012 and subsequently the PCB had sought the report from
the units. In Kochi there are more than 4,000 units, comprising star hotels,
hospitals, clinics, laboratories and industries, generating e-waste.
