While plans for a hosting a green Commonwealth Games are rife, the city’s main civic agency, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) doesn’t have a plan in place yet for clearing the garbage from the Games Village between October 3 and 14, the duration of the event. This was revealed during a Cabinet meeting held on Sep 25, 2009. The Delhi government has now instructed the MCD to clear garbage three times a day from the site. The question now is how the garbage will be transferred to the landfill site or recycling plant. “The MCD officials said they would be hiring private contractors, although nothing has been finalised. The MCD has also sought the New Delhi Municipal Council’s (NDMC) help. However, since the area does not fall under NDMC’s jurisdiction, they have refused,” a senior government official said.
