Source: The Times of India, Mumbai, Date: , 2009

In a bid to ensure that all healthcare units comply with the rules related to disposal of bio-medical waste, the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has initiated action against 230 erring establishments. Of these, 100 have been served with closure notices,
while the rest have been asked to comply with the norms within 15 days or face consequences (closure notice). The notice to these establishments was served on May 9. "We have issued notices to erring establishments. If they fail to comply with the norms of the
board, they will be prosecuted,'' said Valsa Nair-Singh, secretary of the state environment department.
